So, another week has passed me by here in Glasgow. I have officially completed a month of my program, and starting on Monday, I am able to actually counsel real, live human beings. As soon as I find a place that wants me, I will be all set. It's kind of daunting, especially when you consider the education required of American students to do the same thing, but I'm trying not to think too hard about that. Today marks the last of the full weeks of the program--for the rest of the year, I will only be in the classroom on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
To celebrate our completion of our first month on the course, a few of my classmates and I got together at our school's pub and had a few pints. I was all prepared to get dressed up to go out for Halloween, but apparently, as noted by the title of this posting, it really isn't that big of a deal here. Bummer! I was going to make Chris carve a pumpkin with me last night, but the grocery store ran out, so no luck there. Worst. Halloween. Ever.
But that's OK! The rest of this weekend sounds like it's going to be fun. I have some studying to catch up on and maybe a little house cleaning...kidding. I've got a party to get to tomorrow, and then a little break on Monday, and then ELECTION MANIA begins! I plan to rest up on Tuesday while you all are casting your ballots(!) and then I will be staying up all night to watch coverage. Wednesday is totally going to be an ass-dragging kind of day if I play my cards right. Please, please, please, all of you, get out there and vote (especially all you lovely, wonderful Democrats)!
Here's a quick story--the other American in my class and I just happened to be at the post office at the same time, attempting to mail our absentee ballots. She is from North Carolina, which could go either way, so she paid a whopping £43 (about $75) to guarantee her ballot would arrive by Monday (her state requires it to be there on the day before the election). I settled for the £5.50, 'will 90% sure be there by Monday' option because Minnesota is safely, intelligently blue.
And on that note...have a great weekend everyone!

Being in a 'battleground' state like Florida I thought I would be anxious to vote and even better, we have 'early voting'. Some guy waited in line 6 hours to vote. The TV news anchor said she waited 3.5 hours. I'd happily take your absentee ballot right now! I know I don't have much a life but I can't imagine standing line for 6 hours! Enjoy your trip - I'm jealous!
