So, before I launch into the "PG-13" portion of my posting, I'll tell you all about something nice. One of my coworkers from the hospital has been travelling around Europe for the last 2 months, and came to Glasgow this afternoon! We had dinner and hung out a little bit, and she'll be here for the next few days. It's pretty exciting to have someone from back home over here! It's so weird!
Alright, so, for all you young ones who read this, maybe don't read this next part. Seriously!
OK, so on my cab ride back, I had about the nicest driver I've ever had. He was friendly and was telling me stories about his time in New York and was just an all-around stand up guy. So, we get to my street and he stops and the light comes on so I can get my money out, and I realize that this nice, older guy has a 'Glasgow smile'. For those of you who don't know (like I didn't up until I came here), a 'Glasgow smile' is this terrible thing where someone will cut a person's face at the edges of their mouth, like the Joker, making it look like a smile. I did some reading about it and apparently, they make the cuts and then kick the victim in the stomach (or elsewhere) until they scream, which opens up the wounds. Isn't that terrible?! It broke my heart that this nice guy had gone through something awful like that. Anyway, maybe I shouldn't have written about something like that, but I'm trying to share all Scottish culture, not just kilts and bagpipes and the Loch Ness monster and all that.
Anyway, once again I'll encourage you all to get out there and vote! After talking to my parents, it sounds as though everyone in America is pretty sure Obama is going to pull this off, but I'm still on the edge of my seat about all this and probably will be until Wednesday!
Take care.
