My First Boxing Day

Hey everyone! I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas! The picture above was taken on Christmas day, on the beach in Montrose, Scotland, which is where Chris' parents live. I thought it was really novel to be on the beach on Christnas day, seeing as how my other 25 Christmases have been spent about 1,200 miles away from any ocean...

I really got a taste of Christmas in the UK, complete with crackers (party favors, not the kind you put cheese on), Christmas puddings, and a speech from the Queen. It was really nice to have my first (and hopefully not last) Christmas with Chris. And even though I missed my own family (and I did, quite a bit), Chris' family made me feel so welcome and part of theirs that it really was a wonderful day.

Today is Boxing Day in the UK, which has some sort of cultural and historical significance, but it basically means that nothing is open and no one is around. It seems to be a day for lying around, eating leftovers and playing with all the gifts you received yesterday. I, however, will be celebrating by boxing up all the junk in our room and getting it the heck out of here--it looks like a bomb went off and it's driving me (and probably Chris) crazy.

Take care, everyone!
