Mary is here! Yesterday, we went to Edinburgh to just hang out and see some of the sights. We went to the Camera Obscura, which is this crazy place full of optical illusions and which has this huge complicated mirror/lens thing that projects an image of the city onto this platform. It's kind of difficult to explain, but there you go. It was pretty neat.
We went to Edinburgh castle for a bit but decided not to pay the £11 fee required to actually go in. Instead, we hiked to the top of Some Hill and saw Some Monuments, including a replica of the Parthenon, which we climbed on. Mary is a much more athletic climber than I can ever hope to be and thus had an easier time of it than I did. She helped me up, and then helped me get down when I got nervous about the jump to the ground. What a good friend!
Our day was capped off when we were swept into a pub with a group of middle-aged drunken fools who insisted on buying us a couple rounds of drinks in exchange for, I think, our enduring patience with them. We were 'treated' to a somewhat racially-insensitive joke, complete with a terrible Scottish-tainted impression of a Chinese accent. Yowza.
On Friday, Mary, Chris and I met up with Roddie and went to hang out at the Bier Stube while he DJ'd. It was nice to have a drink or three and some pizza with friends whilst letting someone else choose the music.
Today, we've had sort of a lazy day. We had tchai tea and ploughman's sandwiches at Tchai Ovna, which is my favorite lazy-Sunday place, then went to the Museum of Transport (YAWN!) for about 15 minutes. Now we're just hanging out, about to make dinner and then head to a movie.
I hope you've all had a nice weekend!
