How to Go to Your First Day of Orientation at an International Postgraduate Program in 11 Easy Steps

1. Stay out way too late. Try to avoid having that last pint, but get talked into it by convincing British people.
2. Wake up hating your 'last night self'. Shower, drink tea and have toast. Look outside and see it's raining. Vacillate between wearing boots or wearing flats. Pick flats.
3. Go to train station. Realize you don't know exactly which train to get on. Ask someone, the follow his directions to the best of your ability.
4. Get on train.
5. Several stops later, develop sinking feeling that this is not the right train to be on.
6. Confirm with ticket lady that you are on the wrong train. Get off at the next stop and try not to sound like a foreign idiot as you explain what's happened, and where you need to be.
7. Get the attention of a very nice Irish woman. Let her show you what train to be on. Mentally kiss her feet (do not actually kiss her feet as they are wet due to the rain, and it is not socially acceptable).
8. Get off at the right stop(!).
9. Walk 12 feet. Wish you had worn boots instead of flats. Repeat 83 times throughout the 15 minute walk.
10. Arrive in one piece. Get where you need to be. Meet 5 amazingly wonderful classmates.
11. Feel like you've made the right decision.
